This study aims at identifying policies, measures and programmes concerning the careers of human resources in R&D. It covered a sample of countries representative of the countries taking part in the Sixth Framework Programme and of the researcher population in the EU as well.

This project contributed to: Systematically collecting and analysing information on careers of human resources in R&D according to the OECD Frascati manual in four domains:

• the supply of researchers
• earnings, pay scales and other forms of remuneration of researchers
• the rules, regulations and practices of the researcher profession and including policies and programmes specifically designed to support and enhance researcher career attractiveness, and
• national policies of relevance to careers in research.

Outcomes

The information gathered and intelligence developed contributed to the ERAWATCH base-load inventory  to expand its coverage to intelligence and policies related to human resources in R&D.
