EducationAlasdair Reid is an economist, holding a BA (Honours) from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh (1988) and a Masters in Economics from the University of Louvain-la-Neuve (UCL, Belgium, 1993). BackgroundAlasdair Reid joined Technopolis, in February 2004, as director responsible for starting up and developing a new Brussels based office for the group. In total, he has more than fifteen years of experience in policy research in the field of regional economic and enterprise development policies and innovation systems and strategies. Prior to joining Technopolis he worked as a consultant in the European Communities office of Coopers & Lybrand, as a researcher on regional innovation policies at the University of Louvain-la-Neuve and then for a major Belgium consultancy ADE S.A. where he led a range of multi-country evaluation and innovation related studies. During his career, he has provided advice and support to the European Commission services, national and regional governments and a variety of agencies and organisations throughout the European Union and in a number of third countries. He notably managed, during 2003-6, the European Trend Chart on Innovation policy monitoring network (33 European countries and a number of leading ‘competitors’ and ‘emerging’ economies) for DG Enterprise, and currently, 2007-9, is a member of the project board responsible for the policy-benchmarking database.
