Jadranka Svarc, PhD, Senior research fellow at the Institute of Social Sciences Ivo Pilar, Zagreb, Croatia is an expert in science and innovation policy in transition countries with more than 10 years of practical experience in innovation policy in Croatia. She received her Ph.D. in sociology of science at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Zagreb.
In the period 1998-2005 she was working on the on the scientific project Social evaluation of science and technology. As the Head of the Technology department of the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports (MSES) from 1994 to 2005 she participated in launching of the first innovation policy program in Croatia in 2001. She also took initiatives in many other projects like EU/CARDS project on Intellectual property rights in academic community, MSES/World Bank project aimed at further development of the technology and innovation policy in Croatia, etc. She was also a member of the Working group for preparation of the accession negotiation of Croatia to EU Chapter 20.2 Innovation policy and a member of the working group for OECD study on higher education in Croatia: R in higher education.
Presently she is a leader of the scientific project - Social evaluation of the Croatian innovation system and coordinator of the FP7 project WBC-INCO.NET within the Institute as a partner of project consortium. She is a country correspondent for ERAWATCH, and participated in the preparation of the first Croatian TrendChart report for 2007.
