The Institute for Forecasting of the Slovak Academy of Sciences was established on January 1, 1989. The mission of the Institute for Forecasting can be summarised as carrying out basic research in the following fields: theoretical and conceptual problems related to development of national economy and forecasting of the Slovak society in national and world contexts. Within this mission, it has fulfilled theoretical-methodological, co-ordination and scientific-educational functions. As a result, the Institute transfers knowledge into practice.

In these last years, the Institute has been involved in several international projects (COST, UNESCO-MOST, 5th Framework Programme and 6th Framework Programme).

Since 1998, the Institute has, jointly with the Institute of Economic Research (Slovak Academy of Sciences), published the bi-monthly "Ekonomický časopis" (Journal of Economics). In the mean time, the Institute is publishing Studies, Working papers, Open series and Discussion papers.
