ERAWATCH has been conceived to provide a "strategic intelligence service" on research systems and policies within the European Union. Erawatch aims to support evidence-based policy-making in the research field in Europe and to contribute to the realisation of the ERA by providing better knowledge and better understanding of national and regional research systems and of the environment in which they operate.
To achieve its aim, ERAWATCH collects data on national and regional research structures, organisations and policy developments. It organises and structures this information and develops analyses and reporting activities on policies, trends and the factors influencing them.
The information is collected in the covered countries with the contribution of the ERAWATCH Network, a network of national organisations.
ERAWATCH is targeted at all those involved in research policy-making in Europe, for example, policy-makers in national ministries and in the European Commission.
A first version of the ERAWATCH on line platform was made public in October 2006.
ERAWATCH is a user-driven service. Developments in 2007 include updating and adapting the service in order to meet the evolving needs of its users community. They also include further development of analytical contents.
